Pumping them up

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

Hello everyone, I heard from Joe this evening while he was running a few technical questions by me. While he sounded like “good ‘ole Joe” you could tell these last few days have really been wearing on them.

I would ask you to take a few moments if you get a chance and reply to his latest blog post with some comments. I know they really look forward to them each night and any additional contact and encouragement would be greatly appreciated!

I guess he was so starved for contact he decided to call me … hah … he must have REALLY been desperate. Nevertheless they could use your encouragement as they’re wrapping up the adventure!

more videos on the way

Greetings everyone, for most of you regular viewers you have probably missed the posting of photos and videos over the last few weeks. I apologize for the delay but now have videos and photos scheduled for release over the new few days.

So, come back each day for updates. Lots more to come!

    Video and Picture Update

    Sunday, March 30th, 2008

Just a quick update on the status of pictures and videos. I know you are all anxious to see them as much as I am. I just heard from Joe a few hours ago that he has sent back a couple of memory cards that should be to me by the end of this week.

As soon as I get them I will be releasing some of the pictures and videos!

Keep checking in as I’ll update as soon as they’re available!

    Tracking their progress …

    Thursday, March 20th, 2008

    Hello again!

A few of you have asked about how you’re going to be able to keep track of the Wisley’s while they’re out on the trail. I wanted to take a few moments to give you a little information on the subject.

There are 3 different ways we’ll be able to keep track of them:

    1. Blog Entries - Joe and Melissa will be carrying a Verizon Wireless SmartPhone from which they will be e-mailing articles to us as often as they can. This will allow us to get frequent updates on things they encounter during their trip.
    2. Photos and Videos - They will also be carrying with them a Canon digital camera capable of taking both pictures and video. These videos and photos will be slightly delayed as they will be mailing them back to me every few weeks. So you can keep an eye out for new videos and cool pictures.
    3. SpotTracker - Last but not least, Joe and Melissa will be carrying this with them at all times on the trail. This device will allow them to stay in contact with us. Basically it uses satellites to send “OK” or “Help” messages back to me. This way we can stay updated from day-to-day as to where they are and how much progress they are making. It will also be nice in the unfortunate event of some sort of “dire emergency,” as there is a 911 button on the device that will activate local EMS and Wilderness Rescue teams and give them their exact location. For more information on the SpotTracker, check out their website at http://www.findmespot.com.

Now for actually tracking their progress …. I will be taking the coordinates they send me and posting them up on a “Trail Progress” page which will be available soon after they depart on the trail (which according to the countdown is in approximately 1 day, 10 hours, 52 minutes, 16 seconds).

This page will have an embedded Google Map with satellite imagery and each of their check-in points will be highlighted.

More info on that once they are on the trail.
